Product Overview

Hirose DF80 series is a 0.5 mm pitch vertical mating type connector with emphasis on mating operability. It is not the smallest in the catalog, but offers generous ±1mm lead-in space in both X and Y directions. That is to say, it allows up to 1mm alignment error when trying to mate plug into the receptacle. This feature, together with the vertical matting design, make it a good candidate for automatic assembly. Besides, it provides a clear tactile click when the lock function is completed and properly secured, making it good for manual operation, too. It also supports an optional pull tab that makes un-mating operation much easier. The plug is made of two metal covers, which gives more chance to survive when the connector is improperly handled. Putting all together, DF80 is a good candidate for applications that need repeated mating / unmating operation. However, it should be noted that the guaranteed durability is still 30 cycles, not a large boost compared with others. For applications that expect longer durability, Hirose used to offer a special receptacle dedicated for plug test, annotated in part number with a "J" right after the initial DF80. That version guarantees 500 mating cycles, mainly contributed by the removal of lock function. Therefore, it is only recommended for in-line tests. Users should carefully evaluate if it is suitable for their applications. Note that the DF80J series is retiring from Hirose's website, one should consult with local distributors on its availability.
